15 Years of YSRCP: Jagan, Strength & Liability

YSR Congress has turned fifteen today. The party was born in Idupulapaya after the Congress High Command refused to make Jagan Mohan Reddy as the Chief Minister and opted to Rosaiah.

Since then, YSR Congress’s strength and weakness is Jagan Mohan Reddy.

It was Jagan who went to jail. It was Jagan who did Odarpu Yatra. It was Jagan who did Padayatra.

He is also known for taking courageous decisions like forcing By-elections in 15 seats in 2012.

Jagan took courageous decisions and Jagan worked hard. He benefitted on all such occasions.

His adamant nature and hard work earned his own following. But then, everything changed after coming to power in 2019.

The mindset of a King crept in Jagan.

He started locking himself in the Tadepalli Palace and also showed nightmares to the people whenever he went out.

He would get the shops closed, schools and colleges shut down, trees cut, and Paradas erected on either side of the road so that people could not get near him.

The madness went to such an extent that traffic would be blocked on the road below even if Jagan was flying in a chopper.

That five-year stint ensured Jagan lost the ground touch.

The adamant nature and the hard work for which people admired him were lost.

He is now afraid to go to the Assembly because he can’t bear the ragging of the 164 MLAs in the Treasury Benches.

He is not the same Jagan who faced Jail and by-elections in the Opposition.

He fears staying in Andhra Pradesh and has become a frequent flyer between Gannavaram and Bengaluru.

During that five years, Jagan was continuously saying that he would remain in power for 30 years and he would get 175/175.

These statements were supposed to convince the minds of the people but instead, Jagan brainwashed himself.

He would not even meet his own MLAs and leaders. He imagined himself as a King who would throw money at people.

The result was a writing on the wall but Jagan could not read it. And now, he can not digest it.

Another example of Jagan’s Political immatureness is the way he treats Pawan Kalyan.

There are no permanent friends and enemies in Politics. Pawan Kalyan was at loggerheads with the BJP and TDP and now they are all in alliance. YSR deferred with KCR but allied with the same party in 2004.

But Jagan could not stand Pawan Kalyan. We have seen him make an insulting comment on Pawan Kalyan recently as well.

Today Jagan has no friends. This also includes the communists who naturally ally with anyone in the Opposition.

Even his mother and sister are also against him and he is fighting them legally.

For the first ten years, Jagan was a huge strength for the YSR Congress and the same Jagan has become a liability now.

But the problem with a Regional Party like the YSR Congress is it can not have an alternate leadership. The leadership should either change or the party should perish.

We will have to see how Jagan will take the YSR Congress. Like Jagan, there will be no extravagant targets, surviving the next four years is a challenge.
