Political equations in Telangana have taken an interesting turn. The AIMIM, which previously supported the BRS, is now openly backing the ruling Congress in the Jubilee Hills bypoll.
The party has urged its supporters and local voters to cast their votes for the Congress candidate. At the same time, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi made remarks that appear to target BRS chief K. Chandrashekar Rao.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, Owaisi said that the government would not change because of the Jubilee Hills bypoll, nor would a new one be formed. His statement is seen as a direct response to BRS claims that the bypoll will test the Congress government’s strength.
Owaisi also criticised the BRS for its decade-long rule without visible development. He urged voters to support Congress candidate Naveen Yadav, adding, “Wait and watch what AIMIM will do in the 2028 Assembly elections.”
Meanwhile, both the BJP and BRS allege that AIMIM’s support for Congress stems from its interest in securing the Hyderabad mayor’s post. Political observers believe AIMIM’s current stance signals a larger strategy for 2028.
