The Supreme Court bench has referred the petitions filed by the farmers on the issue of the R-5 zone within the capital Amaravati to the CJI.
A bench of Justice Abhay S. Oka and Justice Rajesh Bindal took a decision to this extent. When another bench is looking into the petitions against Amaravati, the bench opined that the case of the R-5 zone should be tried together with the main case of Amaravati.
The registry has been directed to take appropriate instructions from the CJI to list these petitions before the concerned bench before Friday. Justice Abhay S. Oka suggested that both petitions should be heard by the same bench.
The farmers who gave their lands to the capital are fighting a legal battle saying that the YSR Congress Government is intentionally giving House sites to the poor of all districts in the Capital so as to ensure the Master Plan becomes unimplementable even if the Government changes in 2024.
Close to 1,400 acres are allocated to this scheme in the key areas of the Master Plan.
The Government is trying to mask that and portray Amaravati farmers and Agitation as anti-poor.
