On one side, Jagan Government claims to be a farmers’ government and implements so many schemes for them. But all that turns out to be only lip service as Andhra Pradesh is ranked third in the country in farmers’ suicides.
These are based on official figures as reported by National Crime Records Bureau in the ‘Crime in India 2021 report’.
Among the 10,881 such suicides of farmers and agricultural labor in the country, 1,065 (9.78%) belong to Andhra Pradesh.
On average, three farmers and agricultural laborers committed suicide in a day in Andhra Pradesh. A majority of farmers who commit suicides have their own lands.
Only Maharashtra and Karnataka have more such suicides than AP.
Andhra Pradesh ranked 10th in India in terms of overall crime rate. The state also ranked 10th in terms of crime against women. Such cases increased in 2021 when compared to 2020 despite the tall claims of the Disha act by the state government.
The state also witnessed a slight increase in crime against children and in murder cases. The number of juveniles involved in crime also slightly increased in the state.
These facts are arrived at by the numbers reported by the state government and the actual numbers can be many times higher, experts say.
