The Election Commission has released the schedule for the by-election to the vacant Rajya Sabha seat. This seat fell vacant with the resignation of Vijayasai Reddy.
Nominations will be accepted till the 29th of this month. The election if necessary will be held on May 9. Counting of votes will be done from 5 pm on the same day.

The new MP will serve until June 2028.
There are rumors that Vijayasai Reddy will be joining the BJP and will get back the seat. If not for him, there are reports that Sai Reddy is asking it for his daughter Neha Reddy.

But then, from the past couple of days, there were fresh rumors that the BJP is not admitting Sai Reddy for now as it may foil the relationship with its key ally, the Telugu Desam Party.
Meanwhile, the name of former Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai is being heard for the seat.

Recently, the BJP allied with the AIADMK for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections. Annamalai is not in favor of this alliance and the party replaced him with another leader as the TN BJP Chief.
Annamalai is the reason for the BJP’s small renaissance in Tamil Nadu. He commands substantial following in the youth there. So, it is not wise to keep him aside completely.
So, the BJP is keen on sending him to the Rajya Sabha from Andhra Pradesh.
In all probability, he will be inducted into the Union Cabinet as well.
In 2014-19, Suresh Prabhu was inducted into the Union Cabinet, similarly after nominating him to the Rajya Sabha from AP.
In 2024 General Election, Nara Lokesh campaigned for Annamalai when he was running for Coimbatore Lok Sabha segment. Both the leaders appeared to have cordial relations.
That may make Annamalai’s nomination easy.
Meanwhile, from the AP BJP, Former MLC Madhav, former Rajya Sabha member GVL Narasimha Rao, party general secretary Vishnuvardhan Reddy, and official spokesperson Pathuri Nagabhushanam were expecting this seat.
In fact, Annamalai is much better than these leaders given how most of these leaders worked against the alliance in 2014-19.
