The purpose of the alliance in Andhra Pradesh appears to have been achieved. There are growing doubts about TDP’s stance following Modi’s speech, questioning the utility of considering BJP as an alliance partner in the state. BJP has been targeting IPS officers aligned with the ruling party, alleging that these officers in key positions are working to ensure YSRCP’s victory in the elections.
AP BJP President Purandreswari wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner requesting the removal of pro-YSRCP IPS officers in the state. She alleged that these officers in influential roles are actively supporting YSRCP’s electoral success, and emphasized that the election process can only be fair and smooth if they are sidelined.
Purandreswari outlined the names of 22 individuals in her complaint, ranging from In-charge DGP Rajendranath Reddy to non-cadre SP Anand Reddy, detailing charges of corrupt practices, their alleged ties with YSRCP, and their purported role in intimidating the opposition.
The complaint was filed by Purandreswari on the 26th of last month, and it’s understood that the Election Commission has already sidelined six IPS officers from the list. DGP Rajendranath Reddy has been serving as the In-charge DGP of the state since February 2022.
However, the list of police officers eligible for full DGP appointment has yet to be forwarded to the UPSC. There are allegations that Rajendranath Reddy has ensured the appointment of ‘favorable’ police officers in crucial positions and misused a significant amount from the police department’s ‘Secret Reserve Fund’, allegedly destroying relevant files and evidence of corruption in the process.
Another officer targeted by Purandreswari in her letter is Seetharaamaanjaneyulu, who serves as the Intelligence IG. He allegedly attempted to obstruct opposition activists from attending a public meeting attended by the Prime Minister by deploying only ‘suitable’ police officers and setting up checkpoints.
Seetharaamaanjaneyulu is also accused of illegally detaining numerous opposition leaders. Serving as the Intelligence DG for three years, he is believed to wield extensive power.
