The DGP made it clear that any activity disturbing public peace will be taken seriously. He said legal action will be taken under the IT Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and even organised crime provisions if required.

He revealed that police have already registered 1,549 cases and arrested 1,344 people in connection with such offences.

He also warned that repeat offenders and groups continuously posting such content will face stricter action. Their social media accounts may also be blocked.

To address the issue, police have set up a dedicated social media monitoring unit using advanced technology. He said investigations will be fast-tracked and offenders will not be able to escape action.

The DGP advised citizens to be cautious while posting or sharing content and avoid spreading rumours or offensive material.
