In a powerful stroke, Chandra Babu Naidu’s government has resorted to curb the injustice in power allotment between AP and Telangana after the state bifurcation. While all the assets and loans division happened according to the locality of presence, Power was distributed according to the usage. As a result, 53.89% is allotted to Telangana while the rest 46.11% is allocated to New Andhra Pradesh. However AP government is saying that injustice is done to them in the allocation. Chandra Babu after meeting with experts came up with a thought to curb the injustice.
Accordingly, AP government had asked APGENCO to cancel all the power purchase agreements it previously made with Discoms. If these agreements get cancelled, AP and Telangana will have to make new agreements. As a result, 462 MegaWatts of power will come additionally available to AP while Telangana will get 200 Mega Watts more of Hydro electricity. But it is known that Hydro electricity will come in only when there are rains. Telangana government is silently observing this move which will cause power scarcity in their state.
