Now that the Telangana elections are done and dusted, the focus has shifted to the Andhra Pradesh elections which are not too far from now.
In the context of AP polls, the Election Commission has passed a new order, regarding the cancelation of the double votes in the state.
There were complaints to the EC that there are people with double votes where they have voter cards in Hyderabad, Chennai, and Bangalore and also in AP. This led to double voting where these people vote in other states and also come to AP and vote here.
The EC has now passed a new directive to the district collectors, asking to collect declaration forms from the voters, saying they hold only one right and have no voting rights in any other states from AP.
And if it is identified that the voter has other state voter cards apart from AP, then legal action will be initiated against him/her. The EC has made it very clear that double voting is against the law and anyone found guilty of the same will be met with legal consequences.
