AP Should Vacate All Its TG Offices

During the bifurcation of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Hyderabad was made the joint capital of both states for 10 years. As the period is going to end now, AP has to hand over all its government offices to Telangana. Otherwise, it has to pay rent to use those buildings.

The common-capital tenure is going to end on June 2. Meanwhile, the AP government requested to extend the tenure for one more year but the government of Telangana refused to do so.

However, reports say that the Telangana government may permit the Andhra Pradesh government to use a couple of government offices and the Lake View guest house. As the assembly elections are approaching in Andhra, the government of Telangana may take a month or two to make a decision, say the sources.

Apparently, the government of Andhra Pradesh is ready to pay rent for the Hermitage building in Adarsh Nagar, the CID building in Lakdikapul, and the Lake View Guest House.

As per the AP Reorganization Act, Andhra Pradesh has the right to share all government offices in Hyderabad for 10 years. However, after making Amaravati the capital, former AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu shifted most of the offices to Amatavati in 2017.
