Bakrid this year falls in a day of Ganesh Navaratrulu celebrated from September 17 to September 27. There were instances of communal violence in the past when festivals overlap. This happens particularly as muslims slaughter cow, a holy animal for Hindus for Bakrid.

The city police are taking strict measures this time to not bring cows and calves for slaughter to the city. They have recently called for a meeting of butchers and explained them about these rules very clearly.
They also instructed them to exercise caution while transporting animals for sacrifice along Ganesh procession routes. They issued specific instructions with regards to waste management to avoid dumping them on roads or near Ganesh pandals and procession routes.
