The Election Commission of India (EC) has imposed a ban on the announcement of exit poll results for the upcoming Telangana election until November 30.
The prohibition encompasses the conduct, publication, and publicity of exit polls, emphasizing the need for maintaining a period of tranquility before the voting day.
Provisions regulating media coverage during the election period are outlined in Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act 1951. This section aims to curb election campaign activities, such as public meetings and the display of election-related content on television and similar platforms, to ensure a peaceful environment for voters.
Violations of the electoral law, as per the EC, could result in imprisonment for up to two years, a fine, or both. The counting of votes is scheduled for December 3.
