DRI Hyderabad has seized cocaine valued at around Rs 24.5 crore at Hyderabad airport in a major drug bust. Officials intercepted an Indian passenger who had arrived from Doha and examined his baggage following suspicion.
During the inspection, officers reportedly found 207 capsules concealed inside seven Lindt Lindor chocolate tubes. The unusual concealment method was allegedly used to avoid detection while carrying the substance through the airport.
Officials recovered around 4.9 kgs of suspected high-grade cocaine from the capsules. The seized substance was valued at approximately Rs 24.5 crore, making it a significant drug seizure at Hyderabad airport.
The passenger was arrested under the NDPS Act, 1985. Officials have taken him into custody as the investigation continues into the source of the cocaine and its intended destination in India.
Investigators are examining whether the seizure could be connected to a wider international drug smuggling network. They are also trying to identify the intended recipient of the consignment and determine whether other individuals were involved.
The DRI is continuing its investigation into the case. Further details about the origin of the consignment, its intended recipients and any possible links to a larger smuggling operation are expected to emerge as the probe progresses.
