Broadcast Audience Research Council India (BARC) which is the official source of Television Ratings in India has taken a stern decision. It has decided to pause the weekly measurement of TV viewership ratings for around 8-12 weeks.
This decision has come in the wake of allegations that two big National media channels are involved in manipulating the ratings. It was alleged that some families at whose houses meters for collecting data of viewership were installed were being bribed to tune into a particular channel.
Earlier, there were similar allegations on a Top Telugu News Channel as well and it was penalized as well. BARC announced it will use this time to review and strengthen its measuring standards and tell us more accurately who India watches.
The exercise would cover all Hindi, Regional, English News, and Business News channels with immediate effect.
