Last year it was reported that crimes against women have gone up by 25% in Andhra Pradesh. Many horrific incidents were reported like the one where a 23-year-old Dalit woman was gang-raped in Vijayawada, a 40-year-old homemaker was raped and murdered in Guntur, a 25-year-old pregnant woman was assaulted and raped at the Repalle railway station in Bapatla.
Now another heinous rape incident has come to light where a 25-year-old young man raped a 70-year-old elderly woman.
A 70-year-old lady has been living in Nandigama selling milk and she would take her cows to Ramapuram. A 25-year-old youth from nearby Raghavapuram would bring his goats to the same place.
On that particular day, the youth was fully drunk and he committed the ghastly act of raping the 70-year-old lady. Not just that, he then bit her ferociously and dumped her into a nearby nala.
The lady shouted for help in severe pain. Hearing her, nearby workers and passersby came and rescued her and took her to Nandigama government hospital.
She had some broken bones and her condition is said to be critical. She was moved to Vijayawada for better health care. However, the locals are asking the government to provide her with medical support and financial assistance.
