Bhogapuram International Airport has reached a key aviation milestone for Andhra Pradesh with the allotment of the ICAO code VOVI. This code will serve as the global identifier for Alluri Sita Ramaraju Airport as it moves closer to formal inauguration.
On January 4, 2026, the first commercial flight landed in Bhogapuram with Union Minister Rammohannaidu on board. The airport is designed to handle both passenger and cargo traffic, meeting a long-pending demand of uttarandhra people.
After the successful validation flight and testing of the 3.8 km long runway, the airport is expected to be ready for full commercial operations from June, 2026. Authorities have confirmed that technical checks are progressing as planned.
The project is a Rs 4700 crore airport with 91.7% of the work completed so far. Located around 45 km from Vizag, it sits on the borders of Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram districts, offering strong regional connectivity.
The uttarandhra airport is already triggering visible real estate growth in nearby areas. Several VMRDA-approved plots have emerged around the site, while economic activity and employment opportunities are expected to rise across neighbouring districts.
