After returning from abroad last night, AP CM Chandrababu has been meeting central ministers in New Delhi. The talk from the Capital is that the BJP has got assurance from TDP for backing BJP in Rajya Sabha bypoll.
The bypoll will be held on May 9. CM Chandrababu will be meeting Amit Shah today and the issue is likely to be discussed.

The bypoll is happening as ex YSRCP’s Rajya Sabha member Vijaysai Reddy resigned from the party and RS membership much before his term ended in June, 2028.
Two seats that fell vacant in RS when YSRCP members resigned were taken by the TDP. This time, BJP is staking a claim to the third seat.

BJP is considering former union minister Smriti Irani and former Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai. While Smriti Irani lost in Lok Sabha polls, she is considered an influential leader who defeated Rahul Gandhi in 2019, from Amethi.
K Annamalai was asked to step down as Tamil Nadu BJP president after BJP formed an alliance with AIADMK. Annamalai who quit IPS to join BJP is considered to be a charismatic leader who helped BJP to find a base at grassroots level in Tamil Nadu.

The notification for the bypoll has already been released and the last date to file a nomination is April 29.
