BJP sets foot in East for the first time

For the first time in its history, Bharatiya Janatha Party managed to set its foot in the East of the country. The saffron party cruised to a sensational victory in Assam by winning absolute majority on its own. The party is hopeful that this will open the gates for it to expand to the North – East of the country.

What is more heartening here for BJP is that, they have not only dethroned Congress here but also won almost double the seats of Congress. Interestingly, Congress won Assam for three times in a row before this election. In 2011 elections, the party won 78 out of the total 126 seats in the state assembly.
