The results of the by-polls for 18 Assembly seats spread across four states Bihar, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab have delivered a shock to the BJP party. While the party thought it will be a cakewalk for it, congress and its allies sprang a surprise by winning eleven of the total 14 seats that went to polls. RJD-JDU-Congress won 6 of the total 10 seats in Bihar stunning BJP which won 31 out of the 40 MP seats in recent general elections.
The state is going for Assembly elections the next year and these by-polls are considered as the semi final for the Assembly elections. Down the South, Congress also managed to conquer BJP’s bastion, Bellary Rural and of other 2 seats, one went to Congress and other to BJP. Congress also managed to win the lone seat in Punjab while BJP managed to retain only 2 of the total 3 seats which went for elections in Madhya Pradesh. Winning the majority seats 11 out of the 14 seats in this by-polls will definitely come as huge relief to Congress and its allies who recently suffered worst possible defeat in the hands. On the other side, BJP will need serious retrospection if their overconfidence costed them dear.
