The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has served show cause notices to Telangana MSOs for stopping the telecast of News channels TV9 and ABN-Andhra Jyothy in Telangana State. They are served notices for violating the TRAI and cable TV Network rules and regulations. The notices have demanded the MSOs and cable network operators to submit the maintenance registers along with their explanations within three days of receiving the notices, otherwise severe action will be initiated which may also include canceling of their licenses.
It is known that the channels were banned by the MSOs of the region after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandra Sekhar Rao slammed them in Assembly for airing derogatory and false news on the region and the newly elected government. Despite the letters from I&B Ministry, KCR’s government has distanced itself from this issue saying it is the decision of the MSOs and nothing to do with the government. However it is an open secret that government is aiding the MSOs in this issue.
