Central government is treading ahead to increase the MLA seats in both the Telugu States ahead of 2019 elections. The other day, Union Law Minister Sadananda Gowda dicussed about it with officials along with Venkaiah Naidu. If this happens, the Assembly seats in AP will increase from 175 to 225 and in Telangana, from 119 to 153.

The delimitation should happen according to Article 170 of the constitution. However the Article says that the Assembly seats across all the states in the country will not be touched until 2026. Since both the Telugu states are new states, the center is planning to bypass it by bringing a new amendment.
Ruling governments in both the states are pressuring the center to bring an amendment to the article so as to increase the seats before the 2019 elections. Even though center was reluctant initially, they are currently thinking of doing that, sources say. This increase will be of great help especially to the ruling parties on both the sides since those parties have more than one candidate in many seats due to defections after the elections.
