Central government today confirmed that Andhra Pradesh will not be getting the promised Special Status. Union Planning Minister Indrajit submitted a written reply to the Parliament regarding the Special Status to the truncated state. He filed this reply for a question posed by MPs Maganti Babu and Prabhakar Reddy.
Indrajit confirmed that Center has no plans of giving Special Status to any state in future. He clarified that the needs of the state going further will be addressed only through the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission. However the Center confirmed that Special Status to the existing 11 states will be continued as promised.
It may be reminded to our readers that Congress promised 5 years special Status on the floor of Parliament and BJP promised 10 years Special Status before the elections. This statement of the Central government will shatter the hopes of people and further complicate the woes of the Andhra Pradesh state which is witnessing falling revenues due to the state bifurcation.
