Horror continues to be one of the strongest-performing genres at the box office. While discussions around superhero fatigue and franchise burnout continue, horror films have consistently attracted audiences. The second half of 2026 is packed with several major releases that promise plenty of thrills.
Leading the lineup is Evil Dead Burn, the newest chapter in the long-running horror franchise. Directed by Sébastien Vaniček and produced by franchise creator Sam Raimi, the film is being promoted as one of the franchise’s most intense entries. It is scheduled to arrive in theatres on July 10.
Another major release is Insidious: Out of the Further, which marks the return of the popular supernatural horror series. The story follows a young mother who discovers she can enter The Further. However, her mysterious ability also allows terrifying entities to cross into the real world.
September will see the return of Resident Evil with a fresh reboot directed by Zach Cregger. The film shifts its focus back to survival horror instead of action. Austin Abrams plays a medical courier caught in a terrifying fight for survival, and the project has already created strong anticipation.
Comic book storytelling also enters the horror genre with Clayface from James Gunn‘s DC Universe. The story follows a struggling actor who turns to an experimental substance to protect his fame. The decision leads to terrifying consequences, with Mike Flanagan writing the screenplay.
Another highly anticipated release is Werwulf from acclaimed director Robert Eggers. Set in 13th-century England, the film promises a dark and atmospheric take on werewolf mythology. Eggers is widely known for creating visually striking and unsettling horror films.
The release schedule makes it clear that horror fans have plenty to look forward to during the second half of 2026. With several established franchises and fresh interpretations arriving in theatres, audiences are expected to enjoy one of the busiest horror seasons in recent years.
