Fulfilling his prominent poll promise, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu has now waged a war on the illegal mining of Barytes in the state. Previous governments have formed rules to make sure the mining is carried out according to the whims and fancies of certain vested individuals and thereby robbing the state revenue. The Chief Minister has now amended rules that the mining is carried out directly by the government and the profits are totally deposited to state treasury.
To avoid mining mafia, the state government is planning to have GPS systems to locate and identify trucks carrying the mineral. Also electric fencing is being planned around the mines to avoid intruders. Chandra Babu is of the opinion that if the illegal mining is curbed, the income from those mining alone will finance half the cost of the infrastructure required to build the new capital, coming up near Vijayawada.
