Another Humiliation Ahead For Chevireddy

Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy gets bail

After spending 226 days in jail, former MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy finally got bail in the AP Liquor Scam. During this period, Jagan Mohan Reddy had been meeting several YSR Congress leaders who were jailed in different cases.

Rajampet MP Mithun Reddy was arrested in the same case after Chevireddy. Jagan even visited him in Rajahmundry Central Jail. However, for reasons unknown, he did not visit Chevireddy, who was lodged in Vijayawada Jail.

This led to anger among Chevireddy’s family members and followers. They were upset over what they felt was Jagan’s neglect. The issue became a talking point within party circles.

Now, the AP High Court has granted bail to Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Sajjala Sridhar Reddy, and Venkatesh Naidu. The court, however, rejected the bail plea of another accused, Raj Kasireddy.

Recently, Jagan started a trend where leaders released from jail are asked to meet him in Tadepalli. He speaks to them and offers consolation. If Chevireddy is also asked to do the same, many feel it would be humiliating for him.

Chevireddy is a senior leader who entered politics during YSR’s time. He became a ZPTC at the age of 27 and played a key role in strengthening Chandragiri for both Congress and YSR Congress.

After Galla Aruna Kumari quit politics and joined TDP, Jagan gave Chevireddy the Chandragiri ticket. He won the seat in 2014 and 2019. In 2024, he was shifted to Ongole, while his son Mohith Reddy contested from Chandragiri.

YSR Congress lost both Ongole and Chandragiri badly in the elections. Chevireddy is accused number 38 in the liquor scam case. The case involves alleged irregularities in liquor sales and bribery between 2019 and 2024.

SIT investigations claim he routed ₹250 to ₹285 crore from Raj Kasireddy to fund YSR Congress campaigns in six districts. His family assets worth around ₹68 crore are also facing attachment. Many believe it would be painful for such a leader to seek consolation in Tadepalli.
