The Greater Hyderabad GHMC law that prevailed over Hyderabad will now be replaced by CORE urban law. CM Revanth Reddy has passed orders to this affect.

Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri corporations will fall under the Core Urban law. When drafted and decided upon, the three corporations will be binded by the Core urban law in terms of developmental activities, taxes, permissions and other important matters related to the corporations.

Even before Core law has been drafted, CM Revanth Reddy has a slew of orders for the betterment of the Core corporations. The city will see regular fogging to deal with mosquito problem, designated places to throw trash, repair and beautification of roads. The CM did not stop there. Plans are on to maintain food quality in hotels under the Core area, creating a separate dashboard to monitor street lights. With Hyderabad turning into a city of hi-rises with many buildings having more than 50 floors, the fire department will be getting latest equipment to deal with fire mishaps.

Rain water harvesting on roads will be taken up, the government offices coming up in Future City will be completed soon and all R&B works will be under MAUD. The CM also has plans to make HYDRAA the gatekeeper of lakes. The city will also see redevelopment and rejuvenation of historical buildings to attract tourists.

The plans sound good. But what is the timeline for such a change and wouldn’t such far-fetching changes need sensitization of public? Won’t it be better if the citizens of the city are involved in the development of the city rather than being silent spectators?

Hyderabad has lost it’s mojo. It is time to revive it into a city that straddles history and modernity like Dubai, say city experts.
