We have many medical experts foretelling about a COVID third wave. As things stand today, vaccination is the only way to escape the virus. It is key to vaccinate the entire population first with at least one dose to achieve herd immunity.
But it looks like both the Telugu States are lagging in this aspect. In the map here, it is evident that in South India – Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu have many districts where less than 40% of the 18+ population are vaccinated with at least one dose.
A glance at the map, the situation is grave in Andhra Pradesh. Except for Vishakapatnam, a predominantly urban district, no other district has crossed over 40%. Even in Vishakapatnam, the vaccinated population is just around 50%. Telangana is a bit better than Andhra Pradesh but still has a lot of work to do.
The numbers are likely to be much worse if we consider both doses. It’s time both governments should ramp up their vaccination.
