Deputy Speaker Raghu Rama Krishna Raju was initially upset over the lack of progress in his Custodial Torture Case. However, there has finally been some movement in the matter, bringing a sense of relief after a long wait.
Earlier this week, former IPS officer PV Sunil Kumar was questioned in connection with the case. Sunil Kumar had already been suspended from service in a separate matter. Developments suggest it may only be a matter of time before his role is clearly established.
Despite this, Raghu Rama Krishna Raju appears to be spending unnecessary time focusing on Sunil Kumar. The Deputy CM has posted messages on social media targeting him, with the suspended IPS officer responding publicly to those remarks.
PV Sunil Kumar has also launched a campaign seeking the removal of RRR from the Deputy Speaker post, citing pending CBI cases. This exchange is unlikely to end soon, as both sides continue to react publicly.
In the process, Raghu Rama Krishna Raju has given unwarranted attention to the suspended officer. YSR Congress backed media has been providing extensive coverage to Sunil Kumar over the past week, amplifying his visibility.
Sunil Kumar is also attempting to provoke SCs and Kapus against the government in the name of RRR. He has previously organised similar meetings, which were seen as politically beneficial to YSR Congress.
It is understandable that Raghu Rama Krishna Raju remains angry over his treatment in CID custody. He endured nearly four years of hardship for speaking against the then Jagan government.
However, he must realise that he is dealing with someone far below his political standing. By engaging publicly, RRR may be unintentionally helping Sunil Kumar gain attention and advance his apparent political ambitions.
The better course would be to submit all available evidence to the SIT probing the case and step back. Raghu Rama Krishna Raju is among the best performing MLAs in the state and should not allow negative publicity to overshadow his work.
