Despite all the precautions that the government issues about cyber attacks, the attacks continue to happen. One such latest incident happened at Megha Engineering.

The cyber thieves stole Rs 5.47 Cr through a fake email ID. If one goes into details, Megha Engineering had placed orders with a Netherlands company for some equipment they required.

The payments were made online as is the norm these days and Megha would get confirmation emails regarding the same.

It is here that the cyber thieves got into the act. They sent an email with one alphabet change and said that due to certain reasons, the online transfer account that was being used was no longer functional.

Without realizing it was a fake mail, Megha Engineering transferred Rs 5.47 crore in two installments to the account suggested by cyber thieves.

However, Megha got an email from the Netherlands company saying they didn’t receive payment. That’s when Megha Engineering realised it was duped.

The company’s account manager Srihari lodged a complaint with the Cyber Security Bureau.

A case has been filed and the Cyber Security Bureau is looking into the matter.
