Senior Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha member Dharmapuri Srinivas has passed away. He breathed his last at 3 AM at his residence in Hyderabad.
Family members informed that he had been suffering from health issues for some time and died of a heart attack.
Hailing from Nizamabad district, DS (as he is popularly known) rose through the ranks in the Congress party. When the party was in power in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, DS served as a minister. He also served as the President of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).
After the state bifurcation, DS joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in 2015 and was elected as a Rajya Sabha member. Later, he returned to the Congress party.
DS is survived by two sons. His younger son, Dharmapuri Arvind, is currently serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Nizamabad representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). His elder son, Sanjay, previously served as the Mayor of Nizamabad.
