The Enforcement Directorate has conducted raids at multiple locations linked to Sasikala, a close aide of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha. Raids were carried out in both Chennai and Hyderabad.
According to reports, ED searched 10 locations, including the Marg office of GRK Reddy in Chennai. GRK Reddy is allegedly a benami of Sasikala, and the raids are part of an ongoing investigation.
The raids follow a CBI complaint stating that a Rs 200 crore loan was defaulted by the parties involved. The loan was taken from Canara Bank and was allegedly not repaid.
A benami is someone in whose name property is held without actual ownership. Sasikala herself was considered a benami of Jayalalitha during her political tenure.
Jayalalitha passed away in 2016 at a private hospital in Chennai. As she had no legal heirs, her assets reportedly went to Sasikala. However, Sasikala later served jail time after being convicted in a corruption case linked to Jayalalitha.
