Open your social media and the top story that is being showed on top locally is Veda pandit Garikapati Narasimha Rao‘s recent comment on mid-day meals. He said if benefits are provided to the under-privileged, they will become “sobhanam pellikodukulu” he said.
Garikapati said there is no need for the governments to provide meals. He said the children should get meals from home. He said why serve eggs in mid-day meals.
Now the issue has become a matter of debate and there are increasing number of people who are lashing out at Garikipati’s insensitive comments.
The members in debates are arguing that by making such irresponsible comments, Garikapati insulted the ideals behind the mid-day meal programme. They say that many dalit children and tribals can’t afford to have food at home. To them, mid-day meal is God sent.
The meals also help parents to send their children to schools. It is a huge socio-economic issue and Garikapati simply ruined the thought and concern that made governments provide mid-day meals.
One man in fact said that mid-day meals at school helped him study and he was not privileged enough to have parents who sent tiffin with rice, dal and ghee.
Another person debated that Garikapati must be arrested under SC, ST atrocities act to teach him a lesson he won’t forget.
It is indeed a shame that Garikapati made slight of the plight of the poor and did not bother to apologise so far.
