A tense atmosphere has loomed over Siddipet since last night due to the escalating conflict between the leaders of the Congress and BRS.
Earlier, Harish Rao challenged that he would resign from his MLA post if Revanth Reddy’s government implemented the Loan Waiver scheme by August 15.
On August 15, the Congress government rolled out the final phase of the loan waiver scheme for outstanding amounts of Rs. 1.5 – Rs. 2 lakhs. After rolling out the final phase, CM Revanth challenged Harish Rao to resign from his post.
Last night, Congress leaders in Harish Rao’s constituency, Siddipet, vandalized his camp office and erected flexis, demanding his resignation as per the challenge.
In the morning, BRS leaders erected flexis across Siddipet, demanding Revanth’s resignation and condemning the attack on Harish Rao’s camp office.
The entire town has been caught up in tensions as both Congress and BRS leaders started taking up rallies in huge numbers.
Amidst this chaos, Harish Rao held a press meet just a while ago. He alleged that the government failed to provide the loan waiver scheme for all beneficiaries. He said many beneficiaries are yet to get the amount in their bank accounts.
He stated that the government gave the scheme to only 22 lakh people and didn’t cover around 25 lakh beneficiaries.
Harish Rao further alleged that the Congress government promised to allocate Rs. 31 crore for the loan waiver scheme but ended up giving only Rs. 17 crores, cutting Rs. 14 crores.
He then challenged Revanth Reddy to come to any place or any centre in Telangana and discuss with farmers whether they got their loans fully waived.
“You decide whether we shall go to your constituency or my constituency. Or take any village in the state. Let’s go there, discuss with the farmers, and ask them if they got the loan waiver scheme in full. Then, everyone will get to know the truth” Harish Rao challenged Revanth.
