A petition filed by Telangana Lawyer Gandham Mohan Rao opposing the Special Powers to the Governor over the common capital, Hyderabad was struck off by the high court a short while ago. The court after examining the petition struck it off and asked the petitioner to file a Peoples Interest Litigation (PIL) is necessary at a later date. Subsequently the petitioner agreed and withdrew the petition.
It is known that the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act provides special provisions to the Governor to take care of the law and order in the common capital. Accordingly Union Home Ministry wrote to the Telangana government to amend the business rules so that Governor can discharge these special duties. However Telangana government is strictly opposing this move and is calling it as Union government’s interference in the duties of the state.
