Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Agency (HMDA) is shying away from initiatives to encourage eco friendly Vinayaka Chaviti. Until last year, HMDA used to tie up with idol makers and used to give a subsidy of over 20 per cent for all those buying the eco-friendly Ganeshas.

However this year the authorities claim that there is a lot of awareness among the public about clay Ganeshas and so they do not feel it is necessary to extend subsidies this year. Even GHMC is also not showing interest in promoting clay Ganeshas this year.
It is already known that the government last year announced an alternative to immersion in Hussainsagar but it did not materialize and the immersion is taking place at the lake itself this year too.
