A freelance web designer residing in Gachibowli was apprehended by the Cyberabad police on Friday for the theft of two high-end BMW cars valued at Rs 1 crore.
According to authorities, the culprit, identified as Baireddy Arun Reddy, stole a luxury car from famous singer Badshah’s concert in the city’s Boulder Hills area on June 24. Spotting a woman arriving in a yellow BMW, he approached her and falsely claimed to be the valet driver. To gain her trust, he allegedly logged her name into an app.
Believing his ruse, the woman handed over her keys, allowing Reddy to swiftly abscond with the vehicle. He then concealed the stolen car in the parking lot of the Sheraton Hotel for a week, hoping it would blend in among other luxury vehicles, as stated by Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Shilpavalli.
During the investigation into the missing BMW, the police also stumbled upon another stolen vehicle—an unaccounted-for BMW X5 that had been reported missing in May of the previous year. This particular car was recovered from Reddy’s residence.
Authorities revealed that Reddy’s modus operandi involved masquerading as a valet driver and making off with the vehicles once entrusted with the keys. During the investigation, Reddy also confessed that he is fascinated and has a fetish for BMW luxury cars.
