Hyderabad is set to bring drone technology into traffic management very soon. The plan is to introduce drone policing to monitor and guide vehicles. Drivers will receive advice and instructions directly from drones to improve road discipline across the city.
Telangana CM Revanth Reddy has directed the police department to procure drones for this purpose. He instructed that drones should be deployed in areas with heavy congestion to provide timely guidance and ensure smoother flow of traffic.
Drone traffic policing is already in use in global cities like Los Angeles, London, Dubai and New York. These drones help in monitoring traffic, identifying violations such as overspeeding or wrong way driving, and handling congestion in real time.
When integrated with AI, drones can generate challans, provide video feeds, and even intercept vehicles if required. This technology can enhance safety and management on Hyderabad’s busy roads. With rising migration to the city, drone policing could become a powerful solution.
