Hyderabad has become one of the first and very few metropolitan cities to actually observe food safety inspections and related drives. The Cyberabad municipal Corporation has been constantly inspecting top food outlets in the city for hygiene and sanitation violations.
It is a very good thing that the authorities have taken it upon themselves to inspect the food outlets in order to maintain a sense of responsibility and fear amongst operators.
However, the end result has been largely minimal when it comes to corrective measures. These authorities have only been issuing warnings and reprimands to these outlets rather than taking decisive action.
For instance, a couple of highly famous food outlets in the city displayed extremely poor hygiene conditions during the inspection and they managed to get away with simple warnings.
It is perhaps responsibility of the authorities to ensure that certain reprimands and strong punishments are accorded to these outlets. Suspending licenses and shutting down these establishments for repeat offences is definitely one strong way to go forward.
Inspections followed by simple warnings cannot perhaps fix the issue as these financially sound outlets can get away with it. Immediate shut downs and seizure of operations can instil fear and keep others away from committing these mistakes in the future.
