As 2026 began, the city welcomed the New Year with celebrations across Hyderabad. City police and traffic police remained on high alert through the night, and as expected, several drunk and drive cases were booked during the celebrations.
Within Hyderabad city limits, a total of 1,198 drunk and drive cases were reported. Under the Hyderabad traffic police, SR Nagar recorded the highest number with 111 cases, followed by Malakpet with 125 cases.
Jubilee Hills reported only 33 cases, while Banjara Hills registered 26, which surprised many. Bowenpally, Marredpally, and Narayanaguda recorded zero cases, while Falaknuma reported the lowest count at nine.
In the Cyberabad area, 928 cases were registered by traffic police. Miyapur topped the list with 102 cases, while Gachibowli followed with 77. RC Puram Kollur recorded the least number with just seven cases.
Overall, 695 cases involved two-wheelers and 199 involved four-wheelers. Most offenders fell in the 21 to 30 age group with 477 cases, followed by 370 cases among those aged 31 to 40.
Three drunk and drive cases were booked against minors below 18 years of age. As citizens bid farewell to 2025, the data suggests many still made an effort to follow traffic rules despite the festive mood.
