Hyderabadis seem to have said No to crackers this year as the city’s pollution data suggests. The Pollution levels in various parts of the city are comparatively less to what is recorded the last year. The main air pollutant that affects human health directly is Particulate Matter10 (PM10) which is also less this year.

Even though they are less than last year, the levels are still very high when compared to the safe standards set by the Central Pollution Control Board. It rained very heavily in several parts of the City on Diwali Night and that may have also contributed for less pollution this year.
The state and central governments extensively promoted against celebrating Diwali with crackers. The publicity seems to have helped in people shying away or reducing the crackers there by Pollution Control. Also the prices of crackers skyrocketing every year is also forcing people to minimize the crackers.
