Meanwhile, India has started augmenting its cold chain capacity in preparation for mass vaccination against COVID. The preparations are in full swing. India’s current cold storage capacity one of the largest in the world but even that would not be enough.

“Most likely the entire program will be swift and unprecedented in scale, as the plan is to do it along lines of elections. It may be even more because only 60-65% participate in an election but this would be much bigger,” a source told us.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 150 Covid-19 vaccines are presently in development, with around 44 candidates in clinical trials and 11 undergoing late-stage testing.
