Former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan has a very problematic stand on Amaravati as for some reason he appears to be always at conflict with the region as a whole.
Today, April 1, the Parliament is going to discuss the Amaravati recognition bill and coincidentally, Jagan sat in front of the media to speak out about the same.
Jagan labelled Amaravati as an unfeasible project, saying it would take ₹2 lakh crore to just provide roads, water, and power supply to the 1 lakh acres that were procured here. He questioned the need for the Andhra Pradesh government to fund such a project.
Adding further, the former CM pointed out that this government presented a bill in parliament to cement Amaravati’s position and questioned what would stop the next government from presenting another bill and undoing the same Amaravati project. He was of the implication that he could very well undo the Amaravati bill if he becomes the CM again.
The YCP chief said Chandrababu called for the assembly discussion on Amaravati but ignored the legislative council and questioned the intent behind this. “The only reason why they held the Assembly that day is to criticise me(Jagan) and nothing else.”
At a time when the Indian Parliament is actively discussing the Amaravati resolution in the house today, Jagan parallelly held a media conference and disputed the very existence of the capital.
Many people thought Jagan might change his stand on Amaravati after witnessing the resounding public mandate, a couple of years ago, but he appears to be still firm on his original minder against Amaravati.
