Telangana government seem to have given up the proposal to dewatering and cleaning up Hussainsagar. HMDA with the assistance of JICA had taken up this project and so far spent 280 Crore of the total 360 Crore sanctioned. Some works like dredging of silt and capacity building works could not be taken up.

HMDA planned to divert these funds about 80 Crore, to some other component of the clean-up. But JICA did not agree to divert. The project met with several roadblocks and the government decided to take the help of Vienna-based Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) for the clean-up.
A team of AIT visited Hyderabad last year. However the government had dropped the idea of taking their assistance since they have charged about Rs 80 lakh for consultancy services. The project is coming to an end next month, but there has been no word from the government on any further clean-up work.
