Former Minister Kodali Nani has returned to active politics in Gudivada after a long gap. He joined the YSRCP’s crore signature campaign opposing the privatization of medical colleges.
This was his first public participation in a party activity after the general elections. He had stayed away from direct politics for almost 18 months due to his defeat and health issues.
Kodali Nani signed a petition that will be presented to the Governor as part of the signature campaign. He later told the media that he will now be active in political programs.
Nani said he underwent a bypass surgery and was advised six months of rest. He added that he will attend programs for six months and later take to the roads to fight for the people. He said he will question irregularities and corruption and ensure Jagan Mohan Reddy becomes CM again.
His plan suggests that he will be cautious for six more months. This means he may stay out of the spotlight for almost two years of the present government.
The demand for Kodali Nani’s arrest has been strong among TDP supporters from AP to America. Nara Lokesh faced the same question recently while interacting with the Telugu Diaspora in the United States.
The Government may have delayed his arrest due to sympathy concerns linked to his bypass surgery. There could be movement in the cases against him soon.
Kodali Nani’s behaviour also remains unchanged. In his latest Pressmeet, he addressed Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan in a singular manner without proper respect.
He has been booked in multiple criminal cases after the Government changed. In June 2024, Gudivada police filed an FIR accusing him of coercing hundreds of Grama and Ward volunteers to resign before the elections to manipulate polling and deny pensions to opposition supporters.
In July 2024, another FIR accused him of threatening liquor syndicate licensee Duggirala Prabhakar between 2019 and 21. The case alleged that he took over a godown for a YSRCP sympathiser and drove the licensee’s mother to suicide through harassment by revenue officials acting on his instructions.
Another case in July 2024 charged him with trespassing on government land in Gudivada. Between August 2024 and early 2025, several FIRs and a court complaint accused him of using vulgar and defamatory language against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and IT Minister Nara Lokesh.
The charges include criminal intimidation, abetment to suicide, defamation, promoting enmity and abuse of power. Police issued CrPC 41A notices to him and his associates and also issued a lookout circular to stop him from leaving the country.
We now wait to see if an arrest will take place soon.
