The Prestigious Vijayawada Metro Rail Project already started experiencing financial hurdles even before the work began. The state government had estimated that it would need 700 Crore for acquiring the required land which is nearly 75 acres. However the central government only sanctioned 100 Crore for the project this year.

Majority of the landowners are opposing to give their lands by claiming that their lands are very costly. On the other side, the state government did not make any allocations for the project in the recently tabled budget. They propose to use land pooling method to acquire this land than the land acquisition.
According to sources, the state government is planning to release 150 Crore initially. JICA has almost accepted to give financial support for the project but 10 more months is required for releasing funds from it. So the cash strapped AP is looking at Union Urban Development Minister, Venkaiah Naidu to come to the rescue of the project.
