While Andhra Pradesh government is still trying hard to get international tag for Gannavaram airport, which is 25 km away from the capital city, they are planning to build a new greenfield airport within the capital city area. Earlier they have planned to locate the airport near Mangalagiri.

But now there is a change of plan. According to well placed sources in the government, the government is planning to locate the new airport somewhere near Tadikonda, which is about 20 km from the riverbank in Amaravati. However there are divided opinions about one more international airport.
Since ORR is being planned at a massive cost of Rs 16,000 crore to provide better connectivity to Gannavaram airport, many feel there is no need for another airport. On the other side, Passenger traffic at Gannavaram had witnessed a huge jump from just 15,000 per month in the past to 35,000 now.
