The Manikonda police have arrested Purnachandra Rao, the employer of a domestic helper named Bindu Sri, who died by suicide at his building in Lanco Hills on August 12. Rao is accused of abetting her suicide.
Bindu Sri had worked for him for seven years before he got married. She had an extramarital affair with him. On the day of the incident, they argued, and Bindu Sri died the next day by committing suicide. Rao and his wife also had arguments due to the husband’s illicit affair.
Rao, a former Kannada actor turned businessman, allegedly lured Bindu with promises of helping her become a heroine in the Kannada film industry, collecting Rs 12 lakhs from her father. Bindu had borrowed Rs 3 lakhs from Rao earlier and agreed to work for free in return.
Recently, Bindu decided to quit, and a new helper was hired. Rao pressured Bindu to continue working for him, allegedly blackmailing her over the Rs 3 lakh loan and their relationship.
Bindu’s family revealed that Rao had promised to take care of her when he hired her, and they were unaware of the harassment she faced. Police sources indicate that Rao refused to let Bindu go, making her work without pay and using threats.
