Markapuram, Prakasam district has become a stronghold of the YSR Congress. The party has won in the 2014 and 2019 elections as well.

Kunduru scored over Janke with his money power in 2019. Janke was promised an MLC but was not given one. He is expecting the ticket now.
Venna Hanuma Reddy and Peddireddy Surya Prakash Reddy who have following of their own in the constituency are also expecting ticket.
