The very next day after the High Court relaxed the stay on the Tenders for Polavaram Hydel Project, Meil Megha Engineering And Infrastructure Ltd (MEIL) performed Bhoomi Pooja at the Project Site. MEIL Project Manager, Murali performed the Bhoomi Pooja and it was attended by the officials of the irrigation department.
On the other side, sub-contractors and workers have staged protests at the Project site demanding that their arrears be cleared. They are refusing the machinery to be taken in and out of the Project site. Police were deployed to control them and it has resulted in a huge commotion.
MEIL’s machinery was brought in with the Police Protection. Jagan Government claims to have saved 800 Crore with the Reverse Tendering but stopping of the works for around Six Months means the Project construction is delayed by a year. MEIL was the sole bidder in the reverse tendering.
The earlier budget of the project was Rs 4,987 crore, while the MEIL proposed to complete it a cost of Rs 4,358 crore. The new cost is 12.6% less than what was proposed earlier.
