The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) is a government-run agency investigating the illegal constructions built by encroaching lakes in and around Hyderabad.
This morning, HYDRAA officials demolished buildings constructed in Full Tank Level (FTL) and Buffer Zones of lakes in Madhapur, Ameenpur and Dundigal areas. However, the public, especially the Middle class, is angry that the agency is demolishing properties where people are already residing.

A lot of middle-class people complained that HYDRAA is not issuing notices to them but giving time to constructions owned by influential people.
In this context, HYDRAA chief AV Ranganath said they will not demolish occupied properties. “No house, even if built in FTL/ Buffer and occupied by people, will be demolished. The habitats/dwellings occupied will NOT be demolished. However, we request the public not to purchase any house, flat, or land that falls in the FTL/ Buffer Zone of any lake. If any such purchasers of properties have doubts regarding FTL/ Buffer zones, they can check HMDA lakes (website) or approach us to clear such doubts,” stated Ranganath.

“All the new constructions in FTL/ Buffer will be demolished. The structures demolished in Madhapur Sunnam Cheruvu and Mallampet Cheruvu of Dundigal are under construction and, without permission, are coming in FTL/ Buffer Zones,” clarified Ranganath.
“The structures demolished at Ameenpur are mainly compound walls/ rooms/ sheds encroached/ grabbed by Mr Katasani Ram Bhoopal Reedy Ex MLA Panyam AP. Seven villas demolished in Mallampeta Cheruvu, Dundigal, are still under construction (not occupied by any families) and are in FTL without any building construction permissions. The builder is Vijay Lakshmi, who is called Lady Don locally. She has many criminal cases booked against her and is also connected to the local political leaders.” he said.
